5 Unconventional Ideas for a First Date

Whether you’re a lovestruck teen or a sixty-year-old divorcee looking to get back out there, first dates are one of the most nerve-wracking experiences you can endure. Sometimes this is due to you being completely out of your comfort zone, and in a formal arena such as a restaurant or bar. It’s times like these that you want the world to open up and swallow you whole.

Fortunately, there are alternative routes to go down that can take the load off. Instead of a stuffy atmosphere that puts extra pressure on you, why not do something a little unconventional, and a little less safe. You could quickly find yourself dropping your guard and enjoying yourself more, and your date will too!

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some first dates that are a little off the well-beaten track:

Escape Rooms

In the last few years, Escape Rooms like the Milwaukee Escape Room have become huge business across the world, and it’s easy to see why. Players get inside a specially designed area that has been set out for a mystery-solving experience, and to get through each level, players have to solve puzzles, riddles and overcome challenges to get to the next level, within a 60-minute time limit. They are incredibly fun and challenging, and you and your date could find out a thing or two about each other and your compatibility as you make your way to the exit, if you manage to get there in time! You’ll have a fun shared experience to talk about when you head to the bar afterward.

Take a Cooking Class

It’s common knowledge that shared tasks build healthy relationships, and there aren’t many more fun and challenging tasks than taking a cooking class. Many cooking classes pair people together to work from set recipes and provided ingredients, and together over a set amount of time, you work to create a stunning one, two or even three-course meal that you will then enjoy eating at the end. What can be more rewarding than that? Providing you don’t fall out and end up having a food fight, of course.

Do Some Volunteering

It’s easy to become a little self-obsessed when it comes to a first date, so why not do something completely off the wall and do some volunteering for your first date. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteering out there, and there aren’t many better ways to showcase what a helpful, caring person you are than working with children or the elderly, taking part in a clean-up trail, or working with animals at the local shelter.

Take a Winery Tour

What can be better than learning something while sipping wine? If your first date is a winery tour, you get the best of both worlds, and if the weather is good, you get to stroll through a vineyard in the sunshine together as you get to know each other. Don’t go too crazy on those free samples, or you might end up falling asleep in the taxi home.

Go to the Extreme

Depending on whether your date is an adrenaline junkie or not, a fantastic first date could be to do something extreme, like a skydive or a bungee jump. You can tick something amazing off both of your bucket lists, and not only will it be something you will remember forever, but if the relationship heads somewhere more meaningful, you will have the best and most enviable first date story ever. “You went for dinner? Great, well we jumped out of a plane at 15,000 feet!”
